Near Chemult, Oregon, this 15-acre site is the starting point for a fully self-sufficient, off-grid home. A cabin framework and a workshop are already in place, giving the project a structural head start toward an autonomous retreat.
A private well and a 550-gallon water storage tower mean the water security groundwork is done. The site's elevation gives it strong year-round solar exposure, making it well suited to a full renewable energy conversion.
Together, these features let us pair practical climate resilience with the setting of the High Desert forest.

Installation of a 12kW off-grid photovoltaic array with lithium-iron-phosphate storage bank.

Fencing and land management to introduce therapeutic equine integration and soil restoration.

Why This Site
This site is Eco Futures' first hands-on project: a chance to build and test off-grid systems in practice, not just on paper. What we learn here — on solar, water, and construction — feeds directly into the plans, costs, and standards we're developing for our UK eco-village work.
High-Altitude Solar Potential
At over 5,000 feet, the site benefits from clearer air and reduced atmospheric interference — conditions that generally improve solar panel performance compared to lower elevations. Paired with long summer days, this makes the location well suited to a full off-grid solar system, with room to generate more power than the site itself will need.
Location
Just off Highway 97 near Beaver Marsh, Klamath County, Oregon. Three miles from the highway and bordering Fremont-Winema National Forest, the site sits within reach of Chemult, Diamond Lake and Crater Lake while remaining fully off-grid.
